Admissions

Come and visit us

If you are interested in your child joining the school, please contact us to discuss what we have to offer and to arrange a visit if you can.

You can contact the school on 01769 572656 or email smups@ventrus.org.uk

Once you decide you would like a place you need to make a formal application.

How to apply

Most children join our school at the normal round, the main intake into school from the start of September in Reception. As a parent, you can apply for a place through the Local Authority.

There are different options for parents of children starting school in Reception. This includes part-time education and deferring or delaying admission until later in the Reception year or, for children with birthdays in the summer term, till the following September. Come and talk to us if you are considering this.

Do also come and talk with us if you are interested in a place in a different year group for any reason.

Applications for residents of Devon for the normal round of applications may be made between 15 November and 15 January for primary schools at devon.cc/admissionsonline or by downloading a form from devon.cc/applicationforms or by calling 0345 155 1019 to request a paper form.

If your child lives in another LA, including Somerset, you should apply through that council. The closing dates are the same nationally.

If you are interested in your child joining the school in-year (once the academic year has started), please do not hesitate to contact the school. Applications can be made online at devon.cc/admissionsonline   or by downloading a form from devon.cc/applicationforms or contacting 0345 155 1019.

Links to additional supplementary Information forms (SIFs) are provided within the South Molton United C of E Primary School Admissions Policy for the year, to be found on the school website or through devon.cc/admissions (listed under ‘South Molton United’)

There is a right of appeal and to a place on a waiting list for places where an application is refused.

The appeals process is detailed at devon.cc/appeals

If you are interested in a place at the school, or have any questions about the admissions process, please contact the school on 01769 572656 or email admin@ventrus.org.uk

The Devon School Admissions service can be contacted on 0345 155 1019 or by email to admissions@devon.gov.uk

Devon publishes guides to the admissions process: the Step by Step Guide and the In-Year Guide at devon.cc/prospectus

Admission Arrangements

As a VA school we are our own Admissions Authority, with responsibility for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admissions. However, we work closely with the Local Authority, and participate in the Devon County Council in year co-ordinated admissions scheme.

Devon County Council publishes information about in-year admissions, and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This can be found at devon.cc/admissions

Our Admissions Policies

We have an Admissions Policy for each academic year, written to comply with the School Admissions Code 2021 and School Admissions Appeals Code 2022. They are published on this page annually when they are proposed for consultation and after they have been determined. They each include information about application and appeal timelines, and Supplementary Information Forms (SIFs). An online application form, together with further information about admissions and appeals, is available on the Devon County Council.

The school’s Admission Arrangements for the current year (2024-25) and for the next academic year (2025-26) are attached below, and can also be found on the Devon Admissions website: devon.cc/admissions

School Admissions Policy 2024-25

See our determined policy below. If you have any queries regarding the policy, you can contact us at the school or schoolsadmissionpolicy- mailbox@devon.gov.uk.

An addition to the catchment area requested in August 2022 following the closure of Chittlehampton School is shown in the map within the policy document, and the changes are explained in red text.
